Day
7 Saturday, July 2, 2005 Santa Fe Miles: 59 9:00 am Time for breakfast. We are yet to have a bad meal in New Mexico, and we're sure today will be just as good, if not better. Last night we decided to just stick around Santa Fe for another day. It's a great town, people are nice and it just feels good to be here...booked the hotel for another night. 11:00 am Yeah...time for a nap. 4:00 pm We head back to Madrid to see what we can find. It's an old mining town that is now home to countless artisans - glass blowers, weavers, sculptors, jewelerysmiths, painters, etc. 5:30 pm We wander into Al Leedom Studio (http://www.alleedom.com/) and meet both Al and his wife Barb (fantasic jewelry design, also found on the above link). Encounters like this are what make this trip worthwhile. We talked politics, art and life. It was so refreshing to meet a couple who are so socially, enviromentally and politically sensitve and engaged, not to mention incredible artists. They make the world a more beautiful place in which to live and have made our trip all the more memorable. 6:30 pm Always on the hunt for places to entertain both ourselves and everyone who is checking the site we enter the Bone Zone/Tiny Town. Thanks goes to Raquel for helping us find this gem. You know what they say, one man's trash is another man's roadside attraction. Highlight: A motorcycle made of bones 8:30 pm Downtown Santa Fe (Yes, the whole city does look like that...even the IHOP). Learned it is possible to have too much art in one place. Overwhelmed, we had another fabulous meal at the Zia Diner. 10:00 pm Back to the hotel for more sleep...hitting the road again in the morning...er...afternoon. |
